CONCEPT
English Heritage Crafts RED LIST
The journey begins in the entrance, where guests are welcomed into a celebration of Britain's rich craft heritage. Inspired by a beautifully detailed quilt created by an English woman in the 1830s, the flooring reinterprets the endangered craft of quilting in frame through a contemporary lens. The intricate pattern pays homage to the skill, patience and artistry of traditional makers, creating a memorable first impression that honours history while introducing the project's heritage-led narrative. This space sets the tone for an immersive experience, where craftsmanship is celebrated and reimagined for the modern day. Continuing into the Orrery Café, the design draws inspiration from the endangered crafts of globe and orrery making. Research into the handcrafted globes of Bellbury & Co and the contemporary work of artist Lorraine Rutt informed the design, celebrating precision, exploration and traditional craftsmanship. Sculptural forms, rich materials and celestial details create a calm and inviting environment, allowing guests to connect with Britain's craft heritage through a contemporary hospitality experience.

ETCH RESTAURANT

ETCH RESTAURANT
Etch Restaurant celebrates Britain's endangered crafts through a sequence of immersive dining spaces, each inspired by a different traditional craft. Guests first enter the Glass Engraving Room, which explores the history of glass engraving through intricate detailing and the elegance of Bohemian glass. Inspired by the craftsmanship and decorative qualities of engraved crystal, the space uses light, reflection and layered textures to create a refined and atmospheric dining experience. The journey then continues into the Newlyn Room, inspired by the historic Newlyn School of Coppersmiths, where rich copper finishes, sculptural forms and warm metallic tones celebrate the artistry of handcrafted metalwork. Finally, guests arrive in the Hatch Room, an intimate dining space that brings the restaurant together, combining contemporary hospitality with carefully crafted details that honour Britain's endangered heritage crafts.

THE NEWLYN ROOM
