CONCEPT

Harbour Haus is a contemporary aparthotel concept inspired by Southampton's unique history, architecture and landscape. The design draws from the natural beauty of Southampton Common, the historic character of Tudor House, and the bold geometric forms of Wyndham Court's Brutalist architecture, creating a hospitality experience that celebrates the city's rich heritage. Through thoughtful materiality, spatial storytelling and contemporary design, Harbour Haus reinterprets these influences into a welcoming environment that connects guests with Southampton's identity. The project was awarded First Place by LAYRD, recognising its innovative concept and creative approach.
HARBOUR HAUS RECPETION
The lobby welcomes guests into Harbour Haus through a celebration of Southampton's natural landscape and historic character. A bespoke hand-painted mural, inspired by Southampton Common and its former zoological gardens, draws on archival imagery of the animals that once inhabited the park, creating a contemporary interpretation of this forgotten part of the city's history. The mural encourages guests to reconnect with Southampton's heritage while establishing the storytelling that runs throughout the aparthotel.
The material palette takes inspiration from the historic Tudor House, incorporating natural stone, warm timber and traditional herringbone brickwork to reflect the building's rich architectural character. Combined with soft, earthy tones and contemporary detailing, the lobby creates a welcoming first impression that celebrates Southampton's history while seamlessly blending heritage with modern hospitality design.
CAST COFFEE LOUNGE
Inspired by Southampton's rich industrial heritage, the Cast Coffee Lounge celebrates the city's historic foundries and metalworking traditions through a contemporary hospitality setting. The design explores the process of casting, translating its strength, craftsmanship and materiality into sculptural forms, textured surfaces and warm metallic finishes. Blending industrial influences with soft furnishings and inviting seating, the space offers a relaxed environment where guests can gather, work or unwind while experiencing a modern interpretation of Southampton's manufacturing heritage.
THE BUGLE SUITE
Inspired by the historic Tudor House in Southampton, the Bugle Suite reinterprets the building's rich architectural character within a contemporary aparthotel setting. Drawing on the exposed timber framework, traditional brickwork and natural materials found throughout the Tudor House, the suite combines warm textures, refined detailing and timeless craftsmanship to create a comfortable and elegant retreat. Blending Southampton's historic identity with modern living, the Bugle Suite offers guests a unique stay that celebrates the city's architectural heritage.
